Information Session about Riverside High School Engineering Pathway Program Wednesday, December 2nd





Learn about Riverside's STEM Engineering Pathway Program

Join faculty and current students in Riverside High School's popular Engineering Pathway Program Wednesday, December 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the DPS Staff Development Center at 2107 Hillandale Road.  Current 8th grade students who are considering this program or want to learn more are encouraged to attend.  

Part of the national initiative, Project Lead the Way, the Riverside Engineering program is geared for any student who wants to expand their critical thinking, work in teams, and develop their learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  Students take college level courses paired with consistent support and guidance from program staff to prepare them for college.

This is the only info session available before the January 2016 DPS Magnet and CTE Pathway Clusters Lottery.  Interested students must apply for the Riverside Engineering Pathway in the Lottery between January 11 and January 29.

About the Youth Works Internship Program

Young men ages 11 to 21 and all interested community members (men and women) are encouraged to attend and explore next steps with My Brother's Keeper on Saturday, November 14 from 8:30am-12:00pm at Durham County Health and Human Services (414 E. Main St).  It is not too late to RSVP.  Email mybrotherskeeper@dconc.gov to attend.

The DPS Magnet School Lottery starts January 11.  Come now and learn about your choices from Kindergarten through High School.

  • Explore your Elementary, Middle and High School options
  • Talk with school staff about magnet theme offerings
  • Staff on site from Student Assignment, Magnet Programs (including High School Pathway programs), Transportation and other Durham Public Schools departments

PFAST--Parent & Family Advocacy and Support Training starts Nov. 3 for parents and supporters of kids K-12 in our public schools!


Join us for a special daytime series of our popular PFAST (Parent & Family Advocacy and Support Training) for parents, guardians, and others who support our students in public schools (including charter) on six Tuesdays starting from 10:00am-12:00pm starting Tuesday, November 3. (You can join as late as week 2 on November 10 and still complete the series.)   Hosted by Durham County Cooperative Extension, the workshops help ANY parent and others better navigate our public schools to help their children succeed from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

We also welcome community members and professionals who work with families and are interested in better understanding the school environment.  PFAST works well for PreK parents who are exploring their school options and want to get a jump on the transition.  The interactive workshops engage participants and are designed to target key areas of need for parents and students, including:

·         Choosing a school for you—unpacking the mysteries of school choice
·         Understanding standards and testing
·         Maximizing the parent-school relationship
·         Navigating the EC—Exceptional Children’s program—IEPs and more
·         Supporting your gifted student
