We are reaching out to folks who have participated in Parent & Family Advocacy and Support (PFAST) training over the last ten years to share our upcoming parent leadership training and certification.  Parents as Leaders (PAL) Academy is the next step leadership training for any former participant of PFAST or LPFAST who wants to take their advocacy to the next level to gain tools and insights to create change for Durham’s children and schools.  It will be offered in both English and Spanish.  PAL will help develop personal leadership skills and expand participants’ knowledge of education issues in their school and community.  You do not have to be a parent to participate. (You can be a grandparent, supportive community member, etc.) The program runs from March through June 2016.  We will consider a limited number of participants who have not completed PFAST in cases where the parent has other school involvement/training, such as PTA, SIT, other advocacy training etc.

Join us on Thursday, March 17th from 5:30-8:30PM for the PAL Orientation Information Session.*  Dinner and childcare will be provided.  This session is offered in partnership with the DPS Family Academy and will take place at Brogden Middle School—future sessions will rotate to other school and community locations.  At the session, participants will learn about PAL, requirements and what the program.  This session gives an opportunity to decide if PAL Academy is right for you.  Part of the session will include an interactive Real Colors personality workshop. Each participant will have the opportunity to take the Real Colors personality inventory to learn more about your individual strengths, those of others, and how to use that information in your life and leadership.  All who attend will get to experience Real Colors and the results will be used throughout PAL.

Please see the attached flyer and registration for information. *This Information and Orientation Session is required for participation in PAL.

Please Register by Wednesday, March 16 by phone, email, or fax and call with any questions:
